Irish descendants annual celebration in Fort Augustus on May 26

An Irish delegation will arrive on the Island May 24 and depart May 28. They will be hosted and toured by the Fort Augustus Irish Descendants and will be visiting Island businesses, Irish monuments and other points of interest.

FORT AUGUSTUS, P.E.I. — The Fort Augustus Irish Descendants are getting set to once again celebrate the arrival of their ancestors, The Glasgow Irish, to Fort Augustus in May 1830.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church on Sunday, May 26, at 9 a.m., and a ceilidh will be held at 7 p.m. at the Fort Augustus Recreation Centre.

The program will be emceed by Wayne Murnaghan, featuring local entertainers Wayne Murnaghan, Natalie Duguay, Allan and Vince Keoughan, Friends, Matt Reid, Carl Curley, Charles Hughes, Carmen, Halman and Roy Trainor .

Admission is $5, and a lunch will be served. All are welcome to come and celebrate their Irish heritage.
