Morell Regional High
It is exam week at Morell Regional and students are encouraged to prepare accordingly. An exam schedule has been uploaded to the website for easy reference.
As the school gets closer to the departure date for the European adventure, students and parents are reminded to check the group Facebook page regularly for updates. Any participants with food sensitivities, allergies or health concerns should advise administration so accommodations can be made accordingly.
Band students, who are also planning a trip, are reminded to ensure they will be in good financial standing as the second installment is due on Jan. 31. Payment allows us to finalize the numbers of students attending and to make the required plans.
Parent Advisory Committee is meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the staff room. All interested parents are welcome to attend.
Grads are reminded to complete their grad write-ups for the yearbook and pass in two baby pictures to Mr. Gallant as soon as possible.
The 2017-2018 yearbooks have arrived, and members of last year's grad class are encouraged to pick up their copy in the office at their convenience.
Exams will run from Jan. 24-30. Jan. 31 is an administrative day, in preparation for Semester Two, so there are no classes for students.
Montague Regional High School
The exam period begins Thursday, with the Provincial Math Assessment (MAT 521A & MAT 521B) at 9 a.m. and A-Block exams at 12:30 p.m. B-Block exams will be written on Friday at 9 a.m. C-Block exams will be written on Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. D-Block exams will be written on Jan. 29 at 9 a.m. Make-up exams will be written on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
There will be no classes on Jan. 31, due to turnaround day.
MRHS was one of three Island schools to participate in the Healthy School Food Project with Morgan Palmer, to develop and pilot a provincial school food strategy. Affecting Change in P.E.I.’s Education System Resolutions are developed around issues that will affect positive change in the school system for all students’ benefit.
Colonel Gray High School
First semester final exams are scheduled on Jan 24-30, beginning with the Grade 11 Math Assessment. Following is the schedule: Block A exams are Jan. 25; Block B, Jan. 28; Block C, Jan. 29 and Block D, Jan. 30. All textbooks should be returned to teachers at the beginning of each exam. The first instructional day for second semester is Feb. 1.
Welcome to Chad Yorston who joined the cleaning staff on Jan. 28.
Before the end of January, upcoming graduates should fill in a transcript request form in Student Services. All universities/colleges students have applied to, or intend to apply, will require first semester final marks. This form can be filed away until final grades are ready in early February. Then transcripts will be sent as part of a massive mail out to meet university deadlines.
Charlottetown Rural High School
Final exams start Thursday. A full exam schedule is available at www.therural.ca.
Kinkora Regional High School
Final exams are Jan. 24 to 30. There are no classes on Jan. 31, turn around day. Feb. 1 is the first day of the second semester.
The school’s Dental Preventive Clinic will start the second week of February.
Jessica Reeves will take a large group of Grade 10-12 ADP students to Ottawa from Feb. 10 to 16 for a week at Encounters with Canada. The theme of their week is Tech & Food. Participants explore innovative and exciting ideas to feed Canada and the world in the future. Sponsored by Farm Credit Canada, the week includes sessions with industry leaders, such as biotechnologists, sustainable food specialists, and agribusiness managers. Participants travel from laboratory to field to discover the wide variety of opportunities in the tech and food arenas.
Grade 12 students who would like help with scholarship, post-secondary applications or polishing up their resumes and cover letters are asked to drop by the library to see Shelley Tremere. Deadlines are fast approaching.
The student wellness committee is planning the second annual Wellness Expo. Stay tuned for details.
Westisle Composite High School
Following is the exam schedule: Jan. 24, SMA/B/K; Jan. 25, Period 1 exam; Jan. 28, Period 2 exam; Jan. 29, Period 3 exam and Jan. 30, Period 4 exam. There are no classes on Jan. 31 due to Turn Around Day. Second semester begins Feb. 1.
The Well Being Team has put together some information for students to keep as they prepare for their finals. There is an app to help with anxiety at Anxietycanada.com/resources/mindshift-app. Or, if they need to talk, the student well-being team walk-in is available every Thursday (all day) at Westisle in Room 400. Community Mental Health support is only a call away at 902-853-8670. School counselors, teachers and others are also available.
Jimmy the Janitor will be at Westisle theatre on Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. It’s a fundraiser for the school. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in the main office, O’Leary Guardian Drugs, Elmsdale Corner Gas, Dillon’s Convenience, Alberton Irving and Eugene’s General Store.
