CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A Halifax man who was in P.E.I. for the Cavendish Beach Music Festival was sentenced recently to five days in jail for drunk driving.

Michael Joseph Nowak, 25, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he entered a guilty plea.

Crown attorney Gerald Quinn told the court that on July 6 a police officer patrolling during the Cavendish Beach Music Festival weekend stopped Nowak whose vehicle wasn’t staying in its lane.

Nowak provided breathalyzer samples that were more than twice the legal limit.

Before hearing his sentence, Nowak addressed the court and apologized for putting anyone in danger.

“It was reckless, and I take full responsibility,” he said.

Along with the jail time, Nowak must pay a $2,000 fine and is banned from driving for one year.
