CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who had alcoholic beverages in his vehicle when the police pulled him over was recently fined $2,000.
Douglas Bruce Jardine appeared before Judge Jeff Lantz in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to drunk driving.
The court heard that on June 6 at 5:17 p.m., Charlottetown police pulled Jardine over after responding to a report of a possible impaired driver.
Jardine had several alcoholic beverages in the vehicle and he later provided breathalyzer samples that were around twice the legal limit.
In fining Jardine, Lantz said he would normally have sentenced him to jail time, but with a bed shortage at the correctional centre because of the coronavirus pandemic he issued a higher fine instead.
Jardine must also pay a $600 victim surcharge and is banned from driving for one year.
