CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who was involved in an accident while driving drunk was sentenced recently to five days in jail and fined $1,000.
James Cameron Hill appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to drunk driving.
During the proceedings, the court heard Hill didn’t realize his blood alcohol level would still be over the legal limit after consuming the night before.
Hill was involved in an accident at around 12:40 p.m. and gave breathalyzer samples that were above the legal limit.
Before sentencing Hill, Orr said he wasn’t the first person to think the passage of time after drinking the night before was enough.
Along with the jail time and fine, Hill must pay a $300 victim surcharge and he is banned from driving for one year.
