CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who almost hit a community mailbox in a gas station parking lot while driving drunk was sentenced recently to three days in jail.

Marc Allan Cummiskey appeared before Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

Crown attorney John Diamond told the court that on Jan. 23, police responded to a complaint about a driver in the Mount Albion Irving parking lot almost hitting a community mailbox.

The court heard that a witness gave the RCMP the vehicle’s licence plate number and they located the driver soon after.

Cummiskey later provided breathalyzer samples that around 1.5 times the legal limit.

Along with the jail time, Orr fined Cummiskey $1,500, ordered him to pay a $450 victim surcharge and banned him from driving for one year.
