CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The number of speeding fines handed out by Charlottetown police took a huge dive in December.
Officers issued 13 tickets, a big drop from the 112 that were handed out in November and the 133 in October.
Sean Coombs, deputy police chief, said the department chose to focus more on infractions such as impaired driving.
To put things in perspective, Coombs said the force issued 82 tickets during the month under the Highway Traffic Act for things such as dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without a licence, driving with an expired licence and speeding.
Of the speeding violations issued, four motorists were fined in the Queen Charlotte Intermediate School area.
Two drivers were fined on MacAleer Drive while speeding tickets were also issued on Allen Street, Brighton Road, Kirkwood Drive, Lower Malpeque Road, Riverside Drive and University Avenue.
