ELMSDALE CORNER

Jimmy Lefebvre was maintaining a brisk pace he walked along the side of the highway in Elmsdale Wednesday morning despite being well ahead of schedule. If he wanted to, the cross-Canada Can-Survive walker could easily arrive at the finish line on Thursday, but he is determined to stretch it out until Friday.

With the flags of other provinces they’ve walked through firmly secured, the Prince Edward Island flag flies free on the motorhome that’s accompanying the Lefebvre family on their cross-Canada walk in the fight against cancer. The family arrived in P.E.I. on Sunday and will finish their walk around noontime Friday.

When Lefebvre left from Grand Prairie, Alberta on May 1 he had his sights set on arriving at his father's gravesite in Plamer Road on August 31. That would have been his father, Simon's 72nd birthday if cancer had not claimed him in 2016.

During his walk, Lefebvre is raising money in support of those fighting cancer and raising awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifesteyle.

Lefebvre, who is accompanied on the walk by his wife, their children and his mother, plans to complete his walk around noontime on Friday. A wrap-up celebration will be held at the Palmer Road Knights of Columbus Hall on Saturday.
