Covehead man faces charges following collision, assault

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A 27-year-old Covehead man has been charged following an assault on the Arterial Highway Tuesday night.

On Jan. 21 at about 10:15 p.m., Charlottetown police responded to several 911 calls reporting an assault occurring on the Arterial Highway, near the Upton Road round about.

Two vehicles were driving westbound on the Arterial Highway when a collision occurred.  

One off the drivers exited his car and proceeded to open the other driver’s door and proceeded to repeatedly punched the elderly male driver.  

He then returned to his vehicle and fled the scene.

The victim was transported to the QEH, treated for injuries and has since been released.

Witnesses were able to obtain the license plate of the suspect vehicle which led to the driver’s arrest.   

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday and has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

The accused appeared in provincial court Thursday afternoon for a remand hearing and was released with conditions.  

He will return to court at a later date.
