CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown’s parks, recreation and leisure committee is taking a historical look at City Diamond.
The ball diamond is getting some significant upgrades at the moment, which include a new lighting system, new poles and a number of changes to the field itself.
The committee met recently and discussed putting together a history of the players and teams that have played on the ball diamond over the years and having that information be part of the unveiling of the newly-renovated park in late July.
“I’d like to do up some kind of proposal and have the history of City Diamond written," said Coun. Mitchell Tweel, chairman of the committee.
“Do a synopsis over the decades on some of the people who played there and the different leagues."
Tweel suggested Guardian columnist Fred "the Fiddler’’ MacDonald, who played ball at one point, and former Guardian sports and op-ed editor Bill McGuire would be major assets for such a project.
