CORNWALL, P.E.I. — The Town of Cornwall will spend $458,850 on lighting for a new ball field at the Terry Fox Sports Centre.

Town council unanimously passed a resolution to accept a tender from the lowest bidder, Hansen Electric, at a public meeting of council in January.

Several bids were received in response to a call for tenders although all proposals were substantially over the budgeted amount for the project.

The town, through its engineers, removed certain items from the specifications for the project and invited the low bidder to submit a revised price which was still over budget.

The town then retendered the project with the scaled down specifications and several responses were received, which were again in excess of budgeted funds. The town, through its engineers, entered into negotiations with the lowest bidder which resulted in additional cost savings.
