CORNWALL, P.E.I. — A 35-year-old Cornwall man faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act after hitting a woman with his truck Tuesday morning.

RCMP responded to a 911 call Jan. 21 at about 6:50 a.m. from a report that a woman had been struck by a passing vehicle.

As a result, a 28-year-old Cornwall woman suffered minor injuries after being hit by a Dodge Ram along Main Street in Cornwall during the rush-hour commute.

The driver of the vehicle left the scene, but bystanders were able to obtain a license plate and pass the information along to police.

Police intercepted the truck in North River while responding to the call.

The driver was charged for failing to stop and render assistance and failing to leave his name and insurance information at the scene of a collision.

The man was also charged with driving while his licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded.

The woman was treated at the scene and released.

Police remind the public to be cautious when walking along roadways and encourage pedestrians to wear light coloured clothing or something reflective to increase their visibility, especially during winter months when daylight is limited.
