HUNTER RIVER, P.E.I. — Two P.E.I. drivers are facing charges for failing to stop for a school bus with its red lights flashing.

P.E.I. government conservation officers charged a Charlottetown resident on Tuesday at a bus stop near Hunter River.

Then, at the next bus stop, RCMP stopped a second driver for failing to stop for a school bus with its red lights flashing. That driver is also facing charges.

RCMP issued a statement encouraging drivers to report anybody who passes a school bus with its red lights flashing, adding those drivers are willingly endangering the lives of children in an effort to save a few minutes on the road.

Drivers charged with failing to stop for a school bus can see their driver's licence suspended for three months, plus a $5,000 fine.
