The community of Uigg is rallying around a friend and neighbour, Helen Dawson, who is undergoing treatment for cancer.
Dawson has always been very active in the community. She has coached ringette and softball, been WI president, overall leader of the 4-H Group, organized Red Cross Swimming lessons, served on the Vernon River Community School Committee and is very active in her church.
Dawson was first diagnosed with kidney cancer in May 2017. She had a recurrence of the disease in May 2018 and, in May of this year, was diagnosed with Cancer in her spine. She had surgery and is now undergoing treatment for the cancer. As a result of this, her mobility is limited, and she is unable to work.
To support Dawson and her family with the stress from loss of income, the community recently organized a benefit for her. It was a success and committee members appreciate the support the family received from it.
For anyone who did not attend this benefit but would still like to make a donation, contact one of the committee members: Ian and Faye MacLeod, 902-628-7209; Danny and Beth McInnis, 902-651-2075; Ian and Kathy Shaw, 902-394-4181; Deryck and Arlene Powers, 902-651-2176; Derrick and Bonnie Shave, 902- 969-4850; Robert and Winnie MacLeod, 902-626-6443 or Joe and Maureen Donahoe, 902-651-2384.
