CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The City of Charlottetown will officially be applying to the federal Investment in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) for funding after council approved a resolution Wednesday evening.

The possible funding would go to the city's proposed multipurpose entertainment and cultural facility for a project similar to Moncton's new Avenir Centre.

The program was suggested to council in a prior meeting with Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Stephen Myers.

The city has a previously contracted a report to help identify areas and partners where the city can get funding for the facility.

The report will be be completed in the spring of 2020.

No decisions have been made on the size, location or amenities have been made by council for the new multipurpose facility.
