CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown police are alerting the public of a new email scam that has been reported numerous times in the last few days.
The potential victim receives an email from “Privacy-Vault” which lists their personal information, such as SIN, address and date of birth.
The email then instructs them to follow a website link.
Once on the website, it further instructs the victim that the issue can be resolved but will require payment of $50 to a bitcoin address.
Anyone who receives this email is asked to ignore and delete it, and they can report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, or visit their website at antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca.
