CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A Charlottetown man with a “hard’’ drug addiction has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for thefts.

Edward George Willis, 50, was handed 30 days for stealing $87.34 in mostly automotive products from Canadian Tire in Charlottetown on Oct. 18.

Willis was sentenced to an additional 15 days for stealing just over $22 worth of food from Atlantic Superstore in Charlottetown.

The items stolen from Canadian Tire were recovered but Willis was ordered to pay $22.35 in restitution to Atlantic Superstore.

Crown attorney Nathan Beck told the court Willis “appears to have a hard drug addiction.’’

Willis acknowledges he needs to make a better effort to address his addiction, his lawyer said.
