The Charlottetown Fire Department responded to 48 emergency calls in December, up slightly from 41 the month before.
Station 1 on Kent Street handled 30 of the calls. Following is a summary:
- cooking alarm (10);
- alarm ringing with no fire (6);
- alarm caused by smoke, steam or water (2),
- alarm caused by equipment malfunction (1);
- working on alarm system (1);
- workers set off alarm (2);
- motor vehicle accident (3);
- smoke coming from vehicle (1);
- smell of propane (1);
- fire in the air conditioning unit in a home (1);
- smell of smoke reported in building (1); and elevator rescue (1).
Station 2 in the neighbourhood of Sherwood fielded 18 emergency calls, including:
- alarm ringing but no fire (2);
- alarm detector activated (1);
- alarm pulled accidentally (1);
- alarm equipment malfunction (2);
- worker set off an alarm (1);
- cooking alarm (5); f
- ridge fire (1);
- equipment fire (1);
- mutual aid for Island EMS (1);
- mutual aid for the North River Fire Department (1);
- motor vehicle fire (1); and
- carbon monoxide detector (1).
The fire department handled 611 emergency calls in 2020 compared to the 787 it responded to the year before.
