Cat in tree among emergency calls for fire department in Charlottetown

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Charlottetown Fire Department responded to 59 emergency calls in August, up two calls from the month before.

Station 1 on Kent Street was the busier of the two stations, responding to 39 calls. Eighteen were considered false alarms.

Here is a sample of the other calls the station responded to:

  • cooking alarm, five;
  • mutual aid for police, one;
  • mutual aid for EMS, three;
  • sight of smoke, one;
  • mulch fire, four;
  • smoke in kitchen, one;
  • garbage can fire, one;
  • flu fire, one;
  • cat in tree, one;
  • house siding on fire, one;
  • motor vehicle accident, one;
  • wheel barrow fire, one.

Following is a sample of the emergency calls Station 2 in Sherwood responded to:

  • false alarms, 10;
  • cooking alarm, two;
  • motor vehicle fire, two;
  • motor vehicle crash, two;
  • garbage fire, one;
  • pool heater malfunction,
  • one; smoke in building, one;
  • mutual aid, one.

The fire department has responded to 411 calls so far this year (up to the end of August), down from the 483 it handled to the end of August in 2019.
