ALBERTON, P.E.I. — Fishermen and pleasure craft owners are encouraged to round up their friends and participate in the Cascumpec Bay Watershed Association’s fifth annual boat poker run.
The event, which takes place in the afternoon of Sunday, July 28, between Alberton Harbour and Mill River, promises to be fun for everyone aboard.
“It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said association worker Nora Harper. There will be five locations along the way, identified with flags, where participants can report in and collect cards to build their poker hands.
Harper said 70 to 80 vessels, ranging from sea-doos and other pleasure craft to fishing boats, were out on the water for last year’s poker run and more than 200 people onboard the vessels paid the $10 fee needed to receive cards to build poker hands.
Participants can report back to any of the five stations at the end of the poker run to turn in their hands. Prizes will be awarded for the best hand.
The Cascumpec Bay Watershed Association applies funds raised from the poker run to fish habitat and stream enhancement projects in the area, Harper said.
