MOUNT STEWART, P.E.I. — The Public Schools Branch has confirmed that asbestos was removed from Mount Stewart Consolidated school in the summer.
During maintenance at the school, a piece of pipe had to be removed that included two plumbing elbows, each of which contained a small amount of asbestos material.
The asbestos was contained within the elbows, which were in good condition, says a spokeswoman with the PSB.
Hazardous materials were removed by external contractors, she adds, and air quality tests conducted throughout the school found no trace of asbestos fibres.
