CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A P.E.I. woman has pleaded guilty to attempted murder after a mental health assessment determined she was fit to stand trial.
The woman appeared before Justice Terri MacPherson in P.E.I. Supreme Court in Charlottetown Wednesday where she entered a guilty plea to attempted murder by administering a noxious substance.
With the plea, the Crown stayed a second charge of administering a noxious substance, which court documents list as anti-anxiety medication, Ativan.
The woman has been remanded into custody and will be back in court March 18 for the court to hear the facts in the case and for sentencing.
She was charged in August after the RCMP responded to a 911 call and a mental health assessment was ordered that month.
During a Dec. 11 court appearance, the woman’s lawyer told the court he had received the mental health assessment report but hadn't had a chance to review it.
The accused was originally scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but the courts were closed because of the bad weather that hit P.E.I.
A publication ban prevents the disclosure of any details that could identify the victim.
