The Queens District RCMP wants the public to be aware of possible online residential rental scams.
Fraudsters are copying legitimate advertisements for rentals in Prince Edward Island and posting them on websites with added photos with the intention of leaving the impression they are of the inside of these properties. They will always request some kind of an e-transfer or online transfer of funds to secure the property.
The scam also includes falsely using legitimate rentals around the province as part of their on-line presence leaving potential renters more convinced to follow the directions to forward money to secure the properties for rent.
Buyers and renters of property should always confirm the identity of the person offering the transaction, use caution when transferring money, and ensure that the seller/renter is legitimate before providing any personal information or money.
