SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – The P.E.I. Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) is reopening its Summerside service centre.

The new centre will be located the Summerside Presbyterian Church on Victoria Road. It will operate on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Leona Conrick, the organizations’ executive director, said the satellite Summerside office has been closed for almost a year while the local program director dealt with a health issue. The situation has now changed, however, and it is again able to offer services.

“We’re happy to be able to have a presence in Summerside again, and we invite anyone with a military connection or even a curiosity about the military in P.E.I. to come and see us,” said Conrick.

MFRC offers a number of support services for the families of Islanders serving in the military.

Conrick said that people can drop by or make a one-on-one appointment ahead of time at the Summerside centre. There are subsidized movie certificates available for military families to purchase, as well as bridge passes and/or gas cards for military families travelling off-Island for medical appointments. Visitors can also receive information about any of the services the MFRC provides, as well as register for upcoming events.

"We encourage visitors,” Conrick said. “This is a 100 per cent accessible space, there’s free parking, and there’s always coffee. We’re also giving away a small gift to our first 50 Summerside visitors of 2019.”

Anyone interested in contacting the P.E.I. MFRC can email info@pei-mfrc.org, call 902-892-8999, or stop by either the Charlottetown office, located at 210 Water St. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or the Summerside office.
