The new Stewart Memorial Home in Tyne Valley offers long-term and respite care and improved services for Prince County seniors.
The new facility has 22 long-term care beds and two respite care beds, grouped in two households, each containing 12 private rooms with washrooms and home-like living and dining areas.
Space has also been allocated for a new senior’s day program, and for families who are supporting residents in palliative care within the facility.
The $8.4 million facility is the latest project completed with the $60 million invested in long-term care infrastructure since 2009.
Gayle Lamont, administrator of long-term care for East Prince, said the new facility is an important step toward ensuring older Islanders can access the facilities they need – in the regions where they live.
“We are committed to ensuring Islander seniors, and all those in need of long-term care, have access to the care they need, when they need it,” she said.
The facility will replace the existing Stewart Memorial Home which served Tyne Valley as a long-term care facility since 2013. Prior to that, it operated as Stewart Memorial Hospital.
Residents and staff will begin transitioning to the new facility next week and moved in the first week of December.
