EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigations undertaken by the by Prince District RCMP between Jan. 21 and 27. There was a total of 86 occurrences investigated in that timeframe.
Litterbugs investigated
On Jan. 23, at about 11:30 a.m., West Prince RCMP received a complaint of students parking at the Elmsdale Community Centre during lunch hour leaving garbage behind. Police will be making extra patrols to the area.
Teen injured in crash
On Jan. 23, at about 5 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a call of a single-vehicle traffic collision on Route 107 in Wilmot Valley. The 17-year-old girl lost control on icy road and rolled over into a field. She was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Man charged with cocaine trafficking
On Jan. 24 at 10 p.m., Prince District Joint Forces Operations arrested a 49-year-old man from Alberton for trafficking cocaine. He will appear in court at a later date.
Unusual driving hazard
On Jan. 25, at approximately 3:50 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a call advising a school bus was travelling on Route 107 in North Bedeque, with its pedestrian warning arm out, causing a traffic hazard. Police contacted the school board, who advised they would put out a radio call to buses in the area to alert drivers to check their arms.
Erratic driver ditches unregistered truck
On Jan. 25 at 5:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP were dispatched to an erratic driving complaint on Route 2 near the Miscouche Legion. The caller reported following a black-coloured pickup truck that was weaving all over the road, as well as doing donuts in front of the Miscouche Legion. A second caller then reported he was also following behind the same vehicle, when the truck abruptly pulled over and a man exited, taking off on foot on a snowmobile trail. Police attended the location of the vehicle, noted it was not registered, and the vehicle was towed. The investigation is continuing in an attempt to locate the vehicle’s driver.
Driver calls 911 after crash
On Jan. 25 at about 7 p.m., East Prince RCMP attended the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Route 1 in Victoria. The driver called 911, after her vehicle had struck a guardrail and flipped, landing on its side against trees. The Crapaud Fire Department and Island EMS both attended the scene. The driver had to be extracted from the vehicle. She was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown for treatment.
Person escorted off property
On Jan. 27 at about 3 p.m., East Prince RCMP was called to a residence in Clinton to investigate a call of a breach of peace. Upon arrival, it was determined no offence had taken place, and the complainant requested assistance in having one person removed from the residence in order to keep the peace.
Trailer and snowmobile stolen
On Jan. 27, East Prince RCMP received a report of theft of a Mission Crossover trailer and an Arctic Cat snowmobile from the parking lot of Future Seafood, located in Fernwood. The theft is believed to have happened sometime between Friday, Jan. 25 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 26 at 12:30 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.
Traffic enforcement ongoing
During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 10 traffic-related complaints. The complaints were mostly about vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding. Traffic hazards on the roadway were also reported. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout the remainder of the month of January, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
