Islanders will be getting a slight break from the recent cold snap as temperatures are expected to reach highs around -9 C today.

Environment Canada is forecasting a mainly cloudy day with a 30 per cent chance of flurries this morning.

Winds will be light this afternoon, giving a break from the frigid wind chills of the past few days.

Temperatures overnight will drop to around -15 C.

Saturday - A mix of sun and cloud. Wind becoming southwest 20 km/h late in the morning. High -10. Night: Cloudy periods. Low -16.

Sunday - Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High -11. Night: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. Windy. Low -15.

Monday - Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. Windy. High -10. Night: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. Low -16.

Tuesday - A mix of sun and cloud. High -12. Night: Cloudy periods. Low -15.

Wednesday - A mix of sun and cloud. High -10. Night: Cloudy periods. Low -11.

Thursday - Snow. High -5.
