ALBERTON, P.E.I. — Visitor precautions are still in place at the Western Hospital due to the presence of gastro-intestinal illness.

Tests confirm the illness is norovirus. Western Hospital is working to prevent the virus from spreading within the facility with extra cleaning and isolation measures for patients who are ill.

To further reduce the risk of spreading norovirus, Health P.E.I. has limited visitations at the hospital to two visitors per patient at a time for a maximum of one hour.

Visitors are asked to stay home if they are feeling unwell to prevent the spread of illness to residents, staff and the public.

Health P.E.I. asks everyone coming to the hospital to clean their hands before and after entering a patient’s room or any department of the hospital, and upon entering and leaving the facility.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer stations are available throughout health care facilities for this purpose.

The situation is being monitored and Health P.E.I. will provide an update later in the week.
