SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Visitor precautions have been put in place at Wedgewood Manor in Summerside due to the presence of gastro-intestinal illness.
Health P.E.I. is asking visitors to stay home if they are feeling unwell to prevent the further spread of illness to residents. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or cramps and diarrhea.
A communications officer for Health P.E.I. confirmed there were four cases of gastro-intestinal illness last week as well as four new cases over the weekend.
Precautions also remain in place at Beach Grove Home in Charlottetown. Precautions were initially put into place at that facility Jan. 25.
The public is reminded the importance of washing their hands before entering a patients’ room, department and upon entering long-term care facilities and hospitals. Alcohol hand rinse stations are available throughout health care facilities.
The visitor precautions will be reassessed as more information becomes available and updates will be provided.
