VIDEO: Demolition of old P.E.I. hospital in Charlottetown underway

Heavy machinery was busy on Brighton Road in Charlottetown Friday as demolition of the old Prince Edward Island Hospital and Prince Edward Home has begun. Kildare Construction Ltd. won the demolition bid in the amount of $2.3 million. The building served as one of two hospitals in Charlottetown, including the old Charlottetown Hospital, until the Queen Elizabeth Hospital replaced both in 1982. The Prince Edward Island Hospital was later repurposed and became the Prince Edward Home, a nursing home and palliative care unit. However, a newer structure was eventually built leaving this building vacant since 2015.
