STANCHEL, P.E.I. - Members of the Crapaud Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire, located at 3828 Rte. 225, on Friday night.

“The building was fully engulfed when we arrived and set up lines at 11:54 p.m.,” commented firefighter Randy Shaw.

No one was in the structure.

“As far as we know it’s a vacant property, so it wasn’t in perfect condition and was falling down from what we gathered in the neighbourhood.”

Crapaud firefighters were on the scene until 3:30 a.m., returning at 6:45 a.m. after a few flare-ups that were quickly extinguished.

“I assume the outcome of the burned building would be the responsibility of the property owner or bank,” said Bill Martin, the former mayor of Summerside.

RCMP were at the scene before firefighters arrived.

Sgt. Leanne Butler said it is suspected the fire was caused by arson, but there are no suspects in the case at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Queen's District RCMP at 902-368-9300.
