Northumberland Ferries has resumed sailing this afternoon after weather forced cancellations this morning.
The next crossing, which is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. from Wood Islands, and all other sailings will take place as scheduled the rest of the day.
Windy weather has plagued the Island of late, with a special weather statement warning of more wind in the forecast being issued by Environment Canada this morning.
A low-pressure system will intensify as it tracks toward the region on Tuesday. This system will give snow and rain but significant accumulations are not expected.
Gusty southeast winds will develop in the afternoon or evening and may approach warning criteria. As the disturbance moves into the Gulf of St. Lawrence Wednesday morning, winds will shift to the west and usher in cold air and flurries. The westerly winds may approach warning criteria and will persist through Wednesday night.
