SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A Summerside man was not seriously injured when the home he was in caught fire late Friday afternoon.
Summerside firefighters and Summerside Police Services closed access to a section of Pope Road for some time while firefighters worked the scene.
Ronnie Enman, the Summerside fire chief, said the call came through at 4:19 p.m.
“We got the lone, male occupant out of the home and on oxygen until Island EMS arrived because of smoke inhalation. There were no serious injuries,” said Enman.
Two pumpers, a pumper tank, and a rescue truck were on scene, among other emergency personnel, said Enman.
“It was just a small fire with a lot of smoke through the basement, main floor and upstairs, but we ventilated that out. The home has some smoke damage, but structurally it’s fine. It looked a lot worse than what it really was,” he said.
The home is set off the road, down a long, narrow driveway.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
