CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown firefighters and police were on the scene of a fire off Mount Edward Road during the evening commute Friday.

Sgt. Dave Pound with the Charlottetown police said they responded to a working fire at 5:36 p.m. It took place at 7 Superior Crescent in the parking lot of Superior Sanitation Services.

They were still on the scene as of 6:30 p.m. Nobody was hurt by the fire, he said.

"Nope. No indication that anybody was injured."

Five Superior trucks were involved in the incident. One appeared to recieve minor damage, while four recieved heavy damage.

"They were engulfed in flames," Pound said.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this point.

"Fire services is still working on that."

A reporter at the scene described the trucks as making popping sounds as they burned. Smoke and flames were visible to commuters from as far away as the Charlottetown Mall.

The Guardian reached out to the Station 2 fire department in Charlottetown, but no one was available to speak.
