TYNE VALLEY, P.E.I. — The Summerside girls' Atom A Capitals recently donated three of their 50/50 earnings to the Tyne Valley Community Sports Centre rink rebuild fund, for a total of $464.

The team donated the money after a game against the Tyne Valley Tornadoes Atom A girls during the hockey season.

Adam MacLennan, chairman of the fundraising committee, said it's great there are other Island hockey teams contributing to the rebuilding effort.

"We've seen a number of different community minor hockey associations contribute to the efforts, and as someone that is very connected to the rink and the community, it's great to see other communities and people helping. That's what P.E.I. is all about."

A few short weeks ago, the committee was hoping to get a boost in fundraising by making the top four of the Kraft Hockeyville contest. Due to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19 strain), the announcement of the final four and the winner was postponed.

MacLennan said it's great that people are still thinking about the Tyne Valley and area sporting community even during these uncertain times.

"COVID-19 has stalled most efforts towards fundraising etc. It’s a major issue that we all are dealing with right now and everyone’s health and safety come first. We'll have a new rink eventually, but I think it’s important for our communities to be safe at this time.
