SOURIS, P.E.I. — Two men from the Souris area were charged on Friday in separate incidents of passing a school bus that had its red lights flashing.
A 17-year-old youth and 56-year-old man were served violation tickets Sept. 6.
Kings District RCMP received a complaint from a bus driver who had been passed on two separate occasions Friday morning while the red flashing lights were activated on the school bus.
The bus was passed once on Church Street and again on Main Street in Souris.
Failing to stop for a school bus when the red flashing lights are activated earned the drivers 12 demerit points, resulting in suspension of their licences for three months, and a fine up to $5,000.
To have a licence reinstated, the driver must meet with Highway Safety, pay a $100 reinstatement fee and take a defensive driving course within six months of the getting their licence back.
After the reinstatement, the driver remains on a demerit point probation in which any further demerits within one year will result in a further licence suspension.
RCMP remind drivers to go slow when the yellow lights are flashing and stop if there are red lights.
