CALEDONIA, P.E.I. — Three people are dead after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 24 and Route 315 in Caledonia on Monday.
A 72-year-old Pembroke woman and a 90-year-old Gaspereaux woman were travelling in a car. The third victim, a 57-year-old Fortune Bridge man, was working in the area driving a dump truck.
All of the occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
Kings District RCMP, Island EMS, Montague and Murray River Fire Departments responded to the two-vehicle collision Monday, Oct. 15 at 1:43 p.m.
Both roads were closed until 10 p.m. while a traffic reconstructionist and the provincial coroner were at the scene. Department of Transportation staff assisted in traffic control.
The RCMP is investigating the incident. Caledonia is an unincorporated community 13 kilometres south of Montague.
The RCMP thanked the Montague and Murray River fire departments, tow-truck operators and members of the public who assisted at the scene.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families facing this tragedy on the Thanksgiving weekend," the RCMP said in a statement.
