CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Police have charged a 49-year-old Charlottetown man in connection with a disturbance outside a city tattoo shop in December.

As part of its ongoing investigation into the violent Dec. 23 incident at the Extreme Ink tattoo shop on Kensington Road, the Major Crime Unit charged the man with assault with a weapon and mischief.

The suspect, who police did not name, was released from custody on conditions and will appear in court to answer to the charges Feb. 7.

Police said the Dec. 23 disturbance saw Extreme Ink owner Donald (Artie) Gautreau injured after getting into a heated exchange outside of his tattoo shop with the passenger of a vehicle. After the passenger exited the vehicle, the driver slammed the vehicle into Gautreau, who was later airlifted to a Halifax hospital and had part of his leg amputated.

This marks the third suspect charged in connection with the incident.
Police previously charged the vehicle’s driver with aggravated assault with a weapon. He is set to appear in court on Jan. 31.

A 20-year-old Charlottetown man was arrested and charged with assault with weapon. He will also appear in court Jan. 31.

Charlottetown Police Services said no additional charges are expected in relation to this case.
