Editor’s Note: A total of 130 occurrences were investigated by Prince District RCMP between June 10 and 16. The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigations:

Man charged for driving while suspended

ALBERTON  On June 10 at about 2:30 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a call of a vehicle that was "all over the road" in Alberton.

Police located the vehicle and the 42-year-old male driver was charged with driving while suspended.

He also received summary offence tickets for not having insurance and for an unregistered vehicle.

Police investigating alleged thefts

ALBERTON During the afternoon of June 10, West Prince RCMP received two calls involving theft from camper trailers that were being stored at the exhibition grounds in Alberton.

The matter is still under investigation.

Motorcycle, vehicle in New Annan collision

NEW ANNAN – On June 11, around 12:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a report of a collision at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 120 in New Annan. A motorcycle was travelling east on Route 2 when a vehicle pulled out in front. The driver of the bike managed to avoid the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

Man charged following vehicle theft

CAPE TRAVERSE – On June 12 at about 8 a.m., East Prince RCMP received a call from a resident of Cape Traverse stating that her Dodge Caravan was stolen.

The vehicle was subsequently recovered, and a 26-year-old man was arrested and charged.

He is scheduled to appear in court in mid-July.

RCMP investigating fatal accident

ELLERSLIE – On June 16 at about 7:25 a.m., members of East Prince RCMP were dispatched to a single-vehicle traffic accident on Route 12 in Ellerslie, where a vehicle failed to negotiate a turn and came to rest overturned in a pond.

The 31-year-old male driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle and was transported to the Prince County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

Police investigating vandalism to property in Lennox Island

LENNOX ISLAND – This past week, East Prince RCMP received a complaint of vandalism to several public property locations in Lennox Island, including the community rink.

The caller said the areas were vandalized by graffiti sometime between June 14 and June 16.  

Police were able to identify individuals responsible for the damage, and the investigation is continuing. 

Recaps and Reminders

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 28 traffic-related complaints.  

These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway.

The RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout June, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
