In anticipation of hurricane Teddy, Parks Canada advises visitors that Robinsons Island Road and a portion of Wild Rose Road (access to Greenwich beach in P.E.I. National Park) are being pre-emptively closed to reduce risk and to ensure visitor safety.

Green Gables Heritage Place in Cavendish (visitor centre and Green Gables house) will also be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Parks Canada is carefully monitoring the situation and the temporary closures will be re-assessed as appropriate.

In Greenwich, the beach access portion of Wild Rose Road will be closed by barrier.

Robinsons Island will be barricaded due to potential flooding as a result of storm surge and waves caused by high winds.

Historically, this area has been vulnerable, and Parks Canada is prioritizing visitor safety in the event that water breaches the roadway.

As the storm progresses, additional closures may occur in P.E.I. National Park and at national historic sites, as warranted.

Visitor safety is of the utmost importance for Parks Canada. During severe weather events, Parks Canada asks visitors to avoid these areas due to the potential of danger from downed trees, localized flooding, coastal and cliff erosion, as well as to give space for workers to remove debris from impacted locations.

These temporary closures will remain in place until conditions are safe and will be re-assessed as the situation progresses.

Parks Canada is also carefully monitoring any possible impacts on other national parks and national historic sites in the region.

Visitors should check pc.gc.ca before they visit to find out what is open and how to plan for their visit.

Visitors can also visit the Prince Edward Island National Park Facebook page or call 902-672-6350 for bilingual updates on the latest closures.
