SUMMERSIDE – It looks like plans to expand the RCAF 200 Wing’s parking lot in Summerside could go ahead as planned as one more step in the process was completed.
On Tuesday, Summerside City Councillors were presented with a report by the Technical Services Committee that outlined necessary criteria for the property located at 316 Court Street to be rezoned into a parking lot. Technical Services recommended that the amendment to the zoning bylaw to allow a parking lot be approved and put forward to council for adoption.
The initial request made by the wing was presented to council in December with a public meeting.
It was met with opposition from a neighbouring property owner who was concerned about noise levels, value of his property and the land being surrounded by parking lots.
Depending on the layout the new parking lot could accommodate 10 to 15 vehicles, with the report showing a layout that supports 13 vehicles, but three existing spots will be lost, one on Strong Street and two on North Market Street.
Further decisions will be discussed at the next Summerside City Council meeting on Feb. 20.
