SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Summerside Police Services dealt with several instances of impaired driving over the holiday period.
The first incident occurred just before 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve when police observed a vehicle on Bayview Drive being operated by a driver with a suspended license.
A 50-year-old Summerside man was stopped by police and showed signs of having been drinking.
A roadside screening device was used on the driver and, as a result, he received a seven-day driving suspension.
On Dec. 29, shortly after 2 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on Fitzroy Street as it matched the description of a vehicle that was involved in an earlier incident.
The 60-year-old driver was administered a roadside test and was then issued a seven-day suspension along with a ticket for failing to produce valid vehicle insurance.
On Jan. 1 at about 10:35 a.m., police received a report of a suspected impaired driver in the drive-thru of a Granville Street restaurant.
Police attended and, with the help of a civilian witness, located the driver of the vehicle that was parked by this time.
A 34-year-old Summerside man showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene.
He later refused to provide breath samples and will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving and refusal to provide breath samples.
On Jan. 2 at about 11:23 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on MacEwen Road that had been seen driving erratically.
A 22-year-old Prince County man was arrested at the scene for driving impaired by a drug.
He failed roadside standard field sobriety testing and later failed an examination by a drug recognition evaluator.
During a search of the vehicle, police uncovered several types of controlled drugs, along with other evidence of trafficking.
As a result, the driver will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving.
Further charges against the driver and his 23-year-old female passenger are anticipated in relation to drug trafficking.
