SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Summerside Police Services is investigating a suspicious fire on the roof of École-Sur-Mer over the weekend.

At about 1 a.m. on Sunday, May 24, police and Sumerside fire and rescue were sent to the school on Maris Stella Avenue.

Police and fire firefighters searched for the source and discovered smoke on the roof of the building, said Summerside Fire Chief Ron Enman.

The flames were in an area of the roof that was under construction.

Firefighters fought the blaze using their ladder truck and by hand from the roof, said Enman.

There were no injuries and police weren’t able to estimate the cost of damages.

There was no fire damage inside the school, only some water damage, said Enman.

Summerside police officers, who were assisted by the RCMP K-9 unit, said the fire appeared deliberately set and are investigating.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to call Summerside Police Services at 902-432-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
