The victim of Thursday’s fatal collision on Elm Street has been identified as 77-year-old Alfred Shaw of Summerside.
Shaw was killed as a result of a motor vehicle/pedestrian collision at about 7:30 a.m. Aug. 13 on Elm Street near Willow Avenue.
“He was such a wonderful husband, dad, grandfather and neighbour. He was much loved by his neighbours. It’s such a shock,” said Amanda Richard.
“He’s been my brother-in-law for over 50 years. It’s a big loss to the family.”
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, said Sgt. Jason Blacquiere of the Summerside Police Services.
Shaw was struck by a pickup truck, the adult male driver was understandably shaken, said Blacquiere.
Speed, drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as factors in the incident.
It’s too soon to determine if charges are warranted, Blacquiere is waiting for information from the autopsy and collision analyst reports.
“These things can take time – weeks if not months,” he said.
Richard said the family is still coming to terms with the loss and has asked for time and privacy to grieve.
