SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Summerside police laid more than 30 charges and issued dozens of warnings during the Operation Impact traffic enforcement initiative over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Included in the charges were tickets for speeding, driving while suspended, violating the rules of the graduated driver’s licence program and four charges of cell phone use while driving, which carries a minimum fine of $575.

Operation Impact is a nationwide traffic enforcement initiative that focuses on impaired driving, distracted driving, seatbelts and aggressive driving.

Police conducted numerous check points throughout Summerside during the weekend, resulting in thousands of vehicles being checked.
