The City of Summerside will be holding a ceremony on Nov. 17 to officially launch its new solar energy farm at Credit Union Place (CUP).
The event starts at 11 a.m. at CUP.
The facility’s solar farm consists of 1,544 panels, which are intended to operate in conjunction with a Samsung SDI energy storage battery.
The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is providing $1.5 million to the battery project, as is the city, for a total of $3 million in public funding.
The city pays more than $380,000 annually to power Credit Union Place and the battery and solar panels are expected to save taxpayers a little more than $100,000 annually.
The project is a partnership between the City of Summerside and Samsung Renewable Energy Inc.
