SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A Summerside man who was sent to prison in 2013 for arson is back in jail after threatening to burn down another property.
Jeffery Douglas Burke, 30, was in court in Summerside Tuesday, where he was sentenced to 120 days in jail on several charges from Dec. 29, 2018.
Burke pleaded guilty to four charges, including uttering threats and damaging property.
Along with the jail time for three of the most recent offences, Burke was also given a suspended sentence for damaging property.
He will be on probation for two years after his release.
Burke must provide a DNA sample for the national databank and will be under a lifetime weapons prohibition.
In 2013, Burke set fire to several pieces of furniture in his former girlfriend’s apartment while he was under the influence of drugs.
That fire caused $200,000 in damage to the building and forced several people out of their apartments, including one tenant who needed to be rescued from a third-floor balcony.
He was also convicted in 2009 of assaulting a former girlfriend when he grabbed her by the throat and held her to the floor.
The parole board revoked Burke’s initial statutory release from prison.
