SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Several charges have been laid against a 25-year-old Summerside man after police found him stealing from vehicles in the Meadow Heights subdivision area in the early hours of Dec. 10.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, Summerside police officers on patrol in the MacMillan Avenue area saw a person inside of a vehicle parked in a residential driveway. Police approached the man and were able to identify him as John Joseph Arsenault.
Arsenault was known by police to not live at the residence where he was found, and he was subsequently arrested for attempted theft from a motor vehicle.
Officers were then able to retrace Arsenault’s whereabouts throughout the subdivision and were able to confirm several other theft-related incidents.
Arsenault was held in custody overnight and was formally charged Monday morning with five counts of attempted theft from motor vehicles, one count of theft from a motor vehicle and two counts of trespassing by night.
Arsenault appeared in court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to the charges. He will be back in court in January for sentencing.
