Summerside man sentenced for threats
SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A Summerside man was handed 18 months of probation for uttering threats.
Scott William Barlow, 44, threatened to cause bodily harm to someone in a June 18 incident. He
Pleaded guilty and received a suspended sentence, probation and must pay $100 in victim surcharges. He must also stay away from the person he threatened.
Prohibited driver caught in Summerside
A Summerside woman was fined for driving without a license.
On July 6, Heather Rae Noonan, 33, was spotted by police on patrol around 9 p.m.
Noonan was at the wheel and police knew she was under a driving prohibition.
Noonan was fined $1,000 and is prohibited from driving for 18 months. She must also pay a $150 victim surcharge.
Convenience store caper lands Summerside man in jail
A Summerside man was sent to jail after he used a ladder and pry bar to break into a Slemon Park convenience store.
John Joseph Roy Arsenault, 27, pleaded guilty to break and enter and theft in provincial court recently.
On March 5, staff at On the Fly convenience store in Slemon Park found a whole in the wall. After reviewing surveillance footage, police saw that Aresnault used a ladder and a pry bar to get into the store. He stole several cartons of cigarettes worth around $470.
Then, on Oct. 2, Arsenault went through a vehicle parked at a residence on Belmont Street in Summerside. He stole $15 and a necklace. The vehicle was not locked, and was not damaged during the theft.
Addiction is a serious issue for Arsenault, said defence attorney Trish Cheverie.
Judge Krista MacKay sentenced Arsenault to 180 days in jail and 24 months of probation. He must pay restitution to Slemon Park in the amount of $1,269.08 for the stolen cigarettes as well as damage to the property. Arsenault must stay away from Slemon Park and from the residence on Belmont Street.
