SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Coun. Justin Doiron wants to do his part for charity this year by growing a moustache.
And he's challenging the rest of his council, as well as the mayors and councillors of municipalities across P.E.I., to take part in the annual Movember fundraiser as well.
"At least the fellas, anyways," he said during on Oct. 19 council meeting at city hall. "I'll be getting out the Gillettes and the body butter on Nov. 1."
Movember is an annual campaign that raises awareness and funds for men's health issues. The idea is for men to shave and then grow a moustache throughout November, but Doiron noted that all facial hair is fair game, as is simply donating to another councillors profile.
While there's not much time before the campaign starts, Doiron has already raised about $200 toward his $1,000 goal. So, if other municipal councillors plan to take him up on the challenge, they better get their razors ready.
"Even with the challenges that 2020 has presented to us, people are still eager to give," Doiron said. "I don't know whether I'll look like Burt Reynolds or the biker from the Village People, but I'd like to see everybody try."
